The Prairie School
Racine, Wisconsin, USA
In this retrofit project, Beta
LED of Sturtevant,
Wisconsin, worked with The Prairie School to significanly lower
costs for outdoor lighting.
Beta LED replaced typical high-pressure sodium
(HPS) parking-lot lights with the company's Edge LED Lighting fixtures.
The result is a 53% decrease in energy costs, better uniformity
and better-quality light than the HPS lighting. The photo
at right clearly contrasts the clean,white
LED lighting on the left side of the parking lot with the muddy-looking
HPS lighting being phased out.

Photopic vision is how the eye perceives
objects and colors under bright light. Conversely, scotopic vision
is how the eye perceives objects and colors under low-light
conditions, such as a parking lot at night. The above measurements
show that LED lights provide more perceived light at night while
using much less energy.
