JRC Companies
Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
Real estate firm JRC Companies is saving more than $5,200 in energy costs and more than $2,700 in bulb replacements and maintenance each year by switching to LED lighting indoors and out. And, the company’s 40 employees say the new environmentally friendly, energy-saving LED light enhances their work experience.
JRC Companies offices are housed in a circa-1930s three-story brick building. Unfortunately, the traditional lighting used for the work spaces produced so much heat that the HVAC system ran constantly. With electricity bills becoming a burden, JRC Companies approached LED lighting company Rethink Lighting for help solving the heat problem while improving lighting throughout the building.
Rethink replaced the company’s interior T8 fluorescent fixtures with 82-watt dimmable LED 2 x 2 tiles from GO Energy Effective Lighting. Incandescent can lights were replaced with 11-watt Cree LR6 LED down lights. Incandescent fixtures were replaced with a 60-watt and a 67-watt LED GO Energy Effective Light. Halogen track lighting was replaced by 83-watt LED GO Energy Effective Lights suspended on wires. Energy consumption for interior lighting was reduced by an average of 44 percent.
The exterior incandescent low voltage path lighting was replaced with Rethink Lighting’s Terra 2 LED low voltage path light, which is Dark Sky-compliant. The incandescent post lights were replaced with Lemnis LED bulbs and halogen spotlights were replaced with Lights of America 5-watt LED spotlight bulbs. Energy consumption for exterior lighting was reduced by 68 percent.
A survey of the company’s employees taken after installation indicates that the new LED lighting creates a more attractive working environment. Employees expressed a sense of better well being and more energy. Five employees indicated switching to LED lighting had reduced or eliminated headaches. Most agreed that the lighting is warmer, more consistent and created a better environment and that new outdoor lighting provides a greater sense of security.
